Twenty-six evenings, one museum and a lot of torchlight. What worked, what didn’t and what we’d do again tomorrow.
For twelve months we kept a museum open until midnight on the first Thursday of every month. Twenty-six evenings later, here is what we learned.
People come for each other
The art brought people in the first time. The crowd brought them back. Evenings where strangers had a reason to talk, a shared torchlit room or a curator on the floor, sold out fastest.
Keep one thing unexplained
We never announced the full programme. A single mystery room each month kept regulars curious and gave every visitor a story to tell on the way home.
